1999. The end of a millennium. Nine years ago the world was preparing for Y2K, thinking it was the end of the world. Or, at the very least, that all the computers were going to crash. There were rumors of Armageddon and the second coming of Christ. Bomb shelters were built, generators bought, and I think a record-breaking number of canned foods purchased.
I wonder if people were more relieved or disappointed at 12:01 on New Year's Day 2000.
